FAQS

WHO DO YOU SEE IN YOUR PRIVATE PRACTICE?

I specialize in working with women of all stages of life--teens, young adult, middle age, and old age. I also enjoy working with families and couples. I see pre-teens on a case-by-case basis.

WHAT APPROACHES DO YOU USE?

Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each person is unique so one approach might fit for one person and not another. That’s why my approach is individualized to YOU. That being said, I am a lifelong learner and am committed to providing my clients with the best approaches available. Here are some of the approaches I use: mindfulness, yoga, narrative therapy, attachment focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), internal family systems (IFS), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

I'M A CHRISTIAN, AND MY FAITH IS IMPORTANT TO ME. WHAT DOES CHRISTIAN COUNSELING LOOK LIKE?

I am also a Christian, and my faith shapes the way I view and practice counseling. God is the ultimate Counselor, and He is the one who brings healing, change, and growth. I believe God uses counselors to help people experience the freedom, love, and joy He offers. Sharing openly about your faith and your feelings about God is not only helpful but vital. I create a safe space for you to talk about all aspects of your faith journey--the good and the not so good--as well as where you’re headed and where you want to be. I rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and lead me so that our work together will reflect His purposes for your life and ultimately His Kingdom.

DO I HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

No, you don’t have to be a Christian to work with me. I offer you the same love and compassion, regardless of your personal beliefs. I don’t push my faith on any of my clients, but I want you to know that I’m coming from a Christian worldview so that you don’t feel surprised or deceived. My stance is that I meet you where you are at, with acceptance and non-judgment.

WHEN DO YOU SEE CLIENTS?

I currently offer morning and afternoon appointments via telehealth. Check with me on my specific availability.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION AND HOW OFTEN WILL I SEE YOU?

Individual sessions are 45 minutes. Couples sessions vary from 45-75 minutes. I typically meet with clients on a weekly basis, but sometimes more than once week is needed. I will make a recommendation based on your particular situation and needs.

DO YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

I am not on any insurance panels, which means that I am an out-of-network provider for PPO insurance plans. I can provide an invoice, which you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. If you have Cigna insurance, I have had success in obtaining single case agreements so please discuss this with me.

My services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance plan. Please check your coverage carefully to verify specifics of your particular insurance coverage and ask the following questions:

  • What are my mental health benefits for an out-of-network provider?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met? If it has not been met, how much has gone towards the deductible?
  • What is my out of pocket maximum and how much has been met?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • Is pre-authorization required?

I have found that working with insurance companies leads to a third party dictating the duration and type of treatment. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis, which is not appropriate in all cases and can have long standing consequences. Working without insurance increases your privacy and gives you the utmost choice and control over your healing process.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

I accept payment via AppleCash.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

Making an appointment is easy. You have 3 options:

WHAT IF I’M STILL NOT SURE COUNSELING IS FOR ME?

Going to counseling the first time (or returning to counseling) can be scary. You may not know what to expect, you may worry about being labeled as “crazy,” or you may have only seen clips of therapy on TV.

To help demystify the process, I offer a free 10-15 minute phone call to answer any basic questions and to see if we are a good fit before starting counseling.
